The Elephant Speaks
One Man’s Elephant book II

No Rights!

I have rights! You cannot do that to me. I have the right of free speech. I have the right to go where I want. I have the right to do what I want. I have the right to become rich if I can find a way. I have the right to keep and spend my money in whatever way I desire.

And God speaks to me.

“You have no rights. You may not say what you wish. You may not go or do what you wish. You have no rights. You have only responsibility. No one has rights, only responsibilities. The right to possess is subject to the responsibility to share.

What? What is this? No rights?

And God speaks to me.

“You have no rights. Your speech is required to be truth, kind and not offend. Your speech is not free. You have no rights. You must have respect for My creation. No one has rights, only responsibilities. Your responsibility is to be aware, have empathy, and care for others. You have no right to do as you wish. You have no right to go where you wish. You have no right to possess. You have only responsibilities.

The elephant is like a rope. It ties your hands and limits your freedom.

I do not want to have my free speech restricted. If this does not give thought, then you are a hopeless case. Aren’t my rights valid anymore? Is not free speech one of our most important rights? How can God think that He can restrict my free speech?

What about the right to go where I want and do what I want? Aren’t my rights valid anymore? How can God remove that from my list of rights?

How about the things I own? I bought these things with money I earned. I worked hard to get where I am. I worked hard to earn my money. Aren’t my rights valid anymore? I don’t want to share.

How do you look at the elephant now?

And God speaks to me.

“You have no rights, only responsibilities.

The elephant is like a rope.

It ties your hands and

limits your freedom.
